In Memory Of Harry Lehotsky, Our Friend, Our Hero

As many of you know, our friend, neighbour and urban hero, Pastor Harry Lehotsky of New Life Ministries, has been battling cancer since earlier this year. This morning at 12:30am, Harry died peacefully. We are grieved at the loss of our friend, but celebrate his life, legacy and faith. Please pray for Virginia, Matthew, Brandon and Jared as they go through the challenges of the coming days, weeks and beyond. Also remember the many friends and family whose lives have been touched by Harry. Kim & I grieve the loss of our friend, to whom we owe so much.

I never met Harry, but I some him occasionally on the news in Winnipeg, and while I was checking the news on the Internet from my home in Taipei, Taiwan, I came across the news of his passing and was deeply moved by all of the great and little things he achieved in his short lifetime. As one person put it, he did more in his life than most people do in a life twice as long. Harry has inspired me to try and do more for my community, be it in Taipei or in Winnipeg. I wish for people of the poorer communities to be able to feel safe when they go out at night. Harry Lehotsky created that feeling for the people of his neighborhood and I just hope that they maintain the courage and desire that Harry instilled them
and continue to pursue the practical and highly achievable dreams he had. One thing that really stands out in my mind is the way he stood up to gangs in his neighborhood and empowered the people to do the same. More people in the city have to stand up to these gangs. We are a city of 700,000 people, why do we let a few small groups of mostly under 20 kids push us around? This city does not have to become like other major cities in Canada and America. We can put a stop to it. I am not talking about putting all of them into prison, I am talking about learning what makes them tick and using that to understand how to incorporate them back into society. Mr. Lehotsky strived for a neighborhood where people could walk around at any time of day and feel safe. This is what all communities in the city should be doing.
Hey Sean,
Harry was a good friend and an ongoing inspiration for us. I am glad his story is reaching out beyond our city, even our nation.
Thanks for sharing your vision and inspiration. Keep me posted on how this plays out for you.
Peace,
Jamie
