Uganda & the Evil of Kony
Over the last year I have been following the horrific evil that is going on in northern Uganda and the Sudan, what the UN calls “one of the worst human-rights crises of the past century.” Children are being forced to murder and rape in the name of supposed freedom, forced by a megamonical leader with a messiah complex. So little is being done. Those who are acting are doing so with little support and at great risk. We dropped the ball with Rwanda, to our own shame. Let’s not repeat the same mistake.
PLEASE READ the following article for a good overview:
If you would like more information about how you can get involved, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have already begun dialogue with several agencies about organizing some serious action. I’ll be making a call for your help soon. Also, please see the following links for more information.
This is not something that we can ignore:

Gulu Walk: A great way Canadians have started stepping out in response to this tragedy.
Peace Not out of Reach: What American Christians can do to help resolve the LRA conflict.
Profile of LRA: The BBC report on the LRA is a good introduction to the rebels
World Vision in Uganda: Check out their important work that need your support.
Invisible Children: A powerful new documentary made by three very committed young guys. See the trailer here.

Thanks for the links. This is stuff we think we’re worlds away from, and need to keep on our radar.
Jose,
Too true. How was the retreat?
Peace,
Jamie
The retreat was great man. We left with such clarity and peace. We’re still processing stuff…If you haven’t done one, particularly with folks that are familiar with contemplative prayer, and spiritual direction, it will be well worth it.
Shalom brother.
Jose,
I’ve wanted to do something like that for some time. We’ll see.
Peace,
Jamie
thank you for bringing this to my attention, and for being intentional in getting us into action. i will be praying for the Spirit to lead me in what i should do.
Jamie: Thank you SO much for this post and telling this story!
Jamie, Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Prayer first, but it must not end there. I am appalled at how I only know the horrible magnitude of what’s going on there now.
Ted
Jamie,
Thanks for this post. We can’t pursue just actions for things we are not ever aware of. Just providing this type of information is a major part in getting help.
Do you know of any news sources that feed specificaly this type of information?
Thanks
Randy
Jamie,
I quickly glanced at your links and thought that there is one more that I believe is a significant way to help create awareness of this issue in Uganda.

I ordered this movie, created by three college students who wanted to put more than words behind their belief that God’s people can make a difference in Africa. They went there to document things happening in the Sudan, but while there were confronted by the very story that you are highlighting here. It’s a powerful documentary and a great way to connect with others who have the same passions.
Dean,
Thanks for this. I am adding it now! I came across it yesterday too. Thanks!
Peace,
Jamie
Randy,
BBC has followed it very well. I set up a Google News Alert to let me know when anything about the LRA or Uganda hits the press. If anyone else can suggest anything, let me know.
Peace,
Jamie
Jamie,
Keep making noise about ongoing injustices that we in the West somehow ignore. This fall, I was privileged to watch a film about child soldiers called Innocent Voices (http://genxcel.blogspot.com/2005/09/invitation-to-innocent-voices.html) that made me aware of the scope of the issue of child soldiers. Great film and great advocacy by you!
Jeremy,
Thanks for the heads up about the film. Please feel free to keep linking me resources.
Peace,
Jamie
